Tchingal
Tchingal is the Boorong emu in the Coalsack. Stanbridge wrote it down at Lake Tyrrell in 1857.
The Boorong, a Wergaia clan, told William Stanbridge they prided themselves on knowing more astronomy than any other tribe. He listed about forty sky names. Tchingal is the dark emu whose head is the Coalsack.
Museums Victoria’s planetarium fact sheet retells the hunt: brothers Bram, Weetkurrk, and the making of western Victorian Country. That is a published outreach retelling of Stanbridge, not a new ethnography.
