Boorong / Wergaia

Berm-berm-gle

Berm-berm-gle is the red-kneed dotterel at Alpha and Beta Centauri, the pointers beside Crux.

Stanbridge’s list pairs Aboriginal names with European stars. Morieson’s later reconstruction for Stellarium tries to draw how Boorong people may have seen the figure.

The pointers are not a navigation joke here. They sit in the neck of Tchingal as well as standing as their own bird. Multiple readings can share a sky without being merged into one icon.

Mercury 91 is not affiliated with any Aboriginal Land Council, Torres Strait Islander organisation, museum, or Stellarium. This library cites published ethnoastronomy. It is not a partnership and not a single pan-Aboriginal sky.
